The top five companies accounted for 14% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Hyundai Motor filed the most robotics patents within the automotive industry in Q4 2023. The company filed 72 robotics-related patents in the quarter, compared with 84 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Toyota Motor with 64 robotics patent filings, Kia (43 filings), and Robert Bosch Stiftung (34 filings) in Q4 2023.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 38% share of total patent filings
The largest share of robotics related patent filings in the automotive industry in Q4 2023 was in the US with 38%, followed by China (21%) and Japan (6%). The share represented by the US was 21% higher than the 17% share it accounted for in Q3 2023.
