The top five companies accounted for 18% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Snap filed the most metaverse patents within the automotive industry in Q4 2023. The company filed 36 metaverse-related patents in the quarter, compared with 42 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Apple with 24 metaverse patent filings, General Motors (20 filings), and LG (15 filings) in Q4 2023.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 50% share of total patent filings
The largest share of metaverse related patent filings in the automotive industry in Q4 2023 was in the US with 50%, followed by China (12%) and Japan (4%). The share represented by the US was 14% higher than the 36% share it accounted for in Q3 2023.
